The Judicatory Vitality Assessment (JVA) is a research-grounded, subscription-based online diagnostic tool available through The FaithX Project.
Okay. But what’s a Judicatory? Good question. All denominations have them. They call them by different names. Catholics and Episcopalians have “Dioceses.” Lutherans have “Synods.” Presbyterians have (you guessed it) “Presbyteries.” Baptists have “Associations” or “Conventions.” The term “Judicatory” is the generic term for these mid-level, governing and/or administrative bodies that oversee a regional association of congregations, and the collective term for all the congregations they oversee.
What does the JVA do? The Judicatory Vitality Assessment helps Judicatory leadership:
- Diagnose its vitality (capacity to thrive) and sustainability (capacity to survive).
- Identify its internal/organizational strengths and weaknesses.
- Identify strengths and weaknesses in how it relates to its congregations.
- Develop and prioritize strategies to address the above issues.
How much does the JVA cost? The $2,695 cost for JVA includes setup and user orientation, one survey, and 1 year of access to analytics and results. This can be renewed at any time to receive another year’s worth of access.
A Few Tips for Getting Started:
- Get a JVA Subscription: See “Explore Your JVA Subscription” (below).
- Select a Representative Sample: 15-20 people representing judicatory leaders, congregation leaders, and standing judicatory committees, who will take the JVA.
- Communicate the Purpose: Publicly and collectively, to the people of the Judicatory. Directly, the people who will take the JVA. When you register for the JVA, you will have the opportunity to write a paragraph or two to the JVA takers about the importance of completing it and instructions for taking it. One of those paragraphs should answer the question, “What is a Judicatory?” so when they see the term in a question, they can swap in the term used in your denomination.
- Start on a Monday: For several reasons, we recommend you start JVA administration on a Monday. You can register at any time, but we recommend waiting until a Monday to start a survey. We have found that starting on a weekend slows completion and reduces the number of survey respondents completing the survey.
